Find Out if LASIK is Right for You!
How Does LASIK Work?
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a laser eye surgery that is FDA-approved to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.1 LASIK is a refractive surgery that works by reshaping your corneal tissue so light entering the eyes will focus on your retina (the back of your eye) for clear vision.

Benefits of LASIK
There are many potential benefits of LASIK, including:
- Improved Vision: LASIK can reduce or eliminate the need for eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Successful Outcomes: LASIK has a satisfaction rate above 98% and more than 90% of patients achieve vision that is better than 20/20.2
- Quick and Convenient: LASIK offers fast results and a short recovery time so you don’t have to worry about interrupting your regular routine.
- Improved Quality of Life: Patients report greater ease when traveling, playing sports, working, and more.
- Increased Confidence: If you don’t like the way you look in glasses, LASIK can boost your self-esteem.

Who is a Good Candidate for LASIK?
The best way to determine if LASIK is right for you is to schedule a consultation appointment. In general, qualities of an ideal LASIK candidate include:
- 18-59 years old
- Looking for a solution for nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism
- Average to thicker corneas
- Stable prescription and good eye health
- Seeking an alternative solution to glasses or contact lenses
- Realistic expectations

What to Expect During LASIK
Getting Ready for LASIK
The first step is to schedule a consultation where we will examine your eyes and discuss your goals and limitations while providing you with the education you need to make an informed decision. Once we have answered all your questions, we will get you scheduled for this life-changing procedure. After you’re scheduled for your LASIK procedure, we will provide you with detailed pre and post operative instructions to take home.
Your LASIK Procedure
LASIK is an outpatient procedure performed in our office. First, our LASIK surgeon will meet with you to review and answer any additional questions you may have. We provide an oral relaxing medication before entering our laser suite. Anesthetic eye drops will be administered to numb your eyes. Your surgeon will begin by creating a flap in your cornea using our Wavelight® FS200 femtosecond laser followed by lifting the flap so our Wavelight® EX500 excimer laser can reshape your cornea before laying the flap back in its original position. The entire surgery is performed in approximately 10-15 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions About LASIK
Will LASIK hurt?
No, LASIK is typically painless because we apply anesthetic drops to numb your eyes. Once the anesthetic wears off, several hours after surgery, you may feel some temporary discomfort that should resolve within a day.
Is LASIK covered by insurance?
No, LASIK is considered an elective procedure so health insurance and vision insurance do not usually cover it. Some plans may offer a discount, but can only be used at designated offices where most patients find having to drive out of the area in order to use the discount end up spending what they saved in gas prices and time spent out of their day. At Skyline Lasik our patients prefer to take advantage of our cash-pay discount or financing options.
What can LASIK fix?
LASIK can fix refractive errors, including:
- Myopia (nearsightedness)
- Hyperopia (farsightedness)
- Astigmatism (blurriness at multiple distances)
What are the side effects of LASIK?
LASIK is widely considered to be a safe and effective procedure.3 Of course, any medical procedure carries some risk of side effects or complications. The most common LASIK side effects are temporary and resolve once the eyes are completely healed, such as dry eyes, halos, or starbursts in night vision. Complications that may require further surgery include under or overcorrection.
Who should not have LASIK?
People who have a history of serious eye and vision problems or conditions such as severe dry eye or glaucoma or should not have elective vision correction surgery. LASIK should not be performed while you are pregnant or nursing because the shape of the cornea can change during pregnancy.
What are my options if LASIK isn’t right for me?
If you are not a good candidate for LASIK due to thin corneas or a high level of nearsightedness, there are other options that may be right for you. We offer several LASIK alternatives, including PRK, EVO ICL and RLE.
Our Commitment to You
At Skyline LASIK, we are committed to providing patients with a unique experience where they can leave feeling confident knowing they made the best and right decision for their LASIK procedure.
